Arsenal's manager has expressed confidence that his side can persist in handling with fitness issues after confirming that star striker Kai Havertz remains out for a few more weeks.

Prolonged Recovery for Havertz

Havertz has been out for months after undergoing knee surgery. Initially expected to return at the start of this month, Arteta explained the player encountered a problem when increasing his training and was unable to move forward “to the next level.”

“Our experience helped us build a group that is far more dependable and has greater depth,” commented Arteta.

Tactical Decisions for Brentford Clash

This update creates a tactical puzzle for Wednesday’s match against Brentford. The manager needs to decide between persisting with Mikel Merino, who scored playing out of position last weekend, or recalling Viktor Gyökeres, who came back after a fitness issue as a substitute. Veteran striker Gabriel Jesus is also in contention following a lengthy absence.

Fitness Doubts Linger

Further fitness issues affect defender William Saliba and attacker Leandro Trossard, who sat out the Chelsea match. As a result, summer signings Cristhian Mosquera and Piero Hincapié are expected to start again in the heart of the defence for the league leaders.

Arteta believes the substantial investment on reinforcements ahead of this season has left Arsenal in a far better place to navigate such absences.

Squad Depth Vital for Premier League Pursuit

Questioned if increased squad depth was aiding their title quest, Arteta was emphatic. “Yes, since the current term has presented greater challenges in certain positions, and now what’s happening with the backline,” he added.

“History has shown us that we have to use players in various roles, and they must be capable to adapt to new tasks if we aim to challenge at the top. And the example of Mikel is probably the prime illustration.”

Manager’s Sympathy for Suffering Star

Commenting on the delay highlighted by Germany manager Julian Nagelsmann, Arteta provided further detail. “He followed all protocols. He failed to advance to the subsequent stage and now it’s looking like we have solved that issue.”

The manager conveyed his eagerness to welcome him back. “Everyone is eager to have him. I mean, it’s a player that, in my view, I value highly for the qualities he offers to the team, but his mentality, his nature. I see him suffer being outside.”

“His playing record is outstanding, he's usually fit, and I can’t wait to see him return with the squad on the pitch because I feel it’s going to be a significant uplift.”
