Battlefield 6's Relaxed Playlist Sparks Heated Discussions Regarding Bots, XP Rewards, and Wait Times

Recently, the game developers launched a new playlist titled Casual Breakthrough. In essence, this option resembles the standard Breakthrough setup but features several notable adjustments:

  • Every squad has only 8 real players, with the rest made up of AI-controlled opponents.
  • Activities performed by human gamers grant complete experience points, while AI activities provide lower rewards.
  • Only two locations can be played: Cairo Siege and Empire State.
  • Features like Player tags, accolades, and stat tracking have been turned off.

So essentially, this mode delivers on its name: it offers a laid-back version of Breakthrough. At face value, you might think it's a good idea, since it gives additional choices for gamers seeking different methods to have fun with the title. But, gaming history have taught us anything, it is that not everyone will be happy. In other words, many BF6 players are mad.

Player Reactions: Anger to Support

"People want real players. Avoid making the errors of your competitors," reads a response to the mode reveal. "Absolutely shocking concept," comments a different user. At the same time, in community forums, one user remarks, "I have no idea where we are headed with this game," while another details all the issues they believe to be problematic in the game: "Resolve glitches, address drone issues, correct rocket mechanics, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, fix awful hit registration. We do not require this AI-heavy playlist."

However, amid the criticism, there are players explaining how much they're enjoying the new mode. "It's very fun to practice, human participants prevent it from being a complete grind but it's quite laid-back," reads a forum post. "This subreddit doesn't understand that there are gamers who actually go outside and can't play this game all the time. Allow them to strike a balance," adds a different comment. A response on Twitter explains that as they're "a battledad with busy schedules, this is great for me," and someone else praises the mode for "avoiding intense competition."

Valid Concerns and Player Input

All that said, players have valid points to criticize Casual Breakthrough. A few folks have highlighted that it could increase wait times more extended for different playlists due to the sheer number of playlists in the game already. Similarly, some areas already encounter AI-filled matches in the current modes. It also seems a little backwards that the mode won't start without a required amount of real players, even though it primarily centers on combat against bots.

Lastly, a major complaints is that Battlefield Portal was meant to provide full XP, including AI matches, but that was removed when they attempted to remove bot farms from the system. So Casual Breakthrough seems like the community meeting them halfway, according to forum feedback. Another labels this mode as the devs "making a mistake significantly, I had so much fun in the first couple of days, what prompted them to adjust it?"

Looking Ahead: Adjustments Occur?

Should the development team has demonstrated something so far with the latest installment, it's that they're paying attention and responding to feedback. Assignments being too difficult were adjusted rapidly, just like the specific battle pass objectives. It is likely that, if their data indicates this recent mode is underperforming to their standards, they won't be shy to make further modifications.
