Her Royal Highness's Yearly Festive Service of Carols Spotlights Unsung Heroes

The Princess of Wales is hosting her customary Christmas carol concert at the iconic London venue, with guests including members of the royal family, famous faces, and community champions who have helped their communities.

The large audience will enjoy a mix of festive songs, musical performances, and spoken word pieces from actors such as award-winning actors.

Focusing on Compassion and Love

The central message of the event, held in the atmospheric historic church on the afternoon, is compassion and demonstrating care for others.

Among the guests will be Jonathan and Anna Cordiner, whose daughter died of a brain cancer, and who founded an organisation, Kayleigh's Wee Stars, to aid parents with a child with a terminal illness.

"Your efforts, love, and understanding, often discreetly and without words, and without any hope for reward or acknowledgement, make an profound impact to the circumstances of individuals," wrote Catherine in a letter ahead of the carol service.

Carefully Paced Reappearance

The royal has been undertaking her own steady comeback to the public eye following her health challenges and treatment, last month delivering her major oration since 2023, in which she reflected on recognising the "discreet, frequently unseen labour of caregivers".

Musical Talent and Access

Guests arriving at the Abbey will be entertained by talented youth performers supported by the charitable trust Future Talent, established in part by the Duchess of Kent to broaden opportunities for instrumental training.

Trumpeter Carys Wood, 18, who performs on the trumpet and is from Pembrokeshire, has been assisted by the organisation, with awards contributing to instruments, tuition, and transportation expenses - and she said it was "incredible" to be playing at tonight's service.

"Pursuing music is often costly," she stated. She is now studying at the renowned conservatoire, and added that "everyone should have the opportunity" to hone their artistic talents.

A Family Affair

Eliza, Carys's sister who is 11, who performs on the brass instrument, will be present at the Abbey. "I never thought I'd be able to play there in front of so many distinguished guests," she said.

Among the guests will be individuals spanning multiple eras.

That will encompass Saphia Turner, aged nine, recipient of a prize for youthful altruism, who produces drawings and undertakes charity feats to generate funds for food banks.

Festive Decor and Performances

The Abbey has been festooned with specially made wreaths, with celebrity baker Mary Berry and floral designer Simon Lycett contributing to their design.

Among the musical performers will be singer Katie Melua, choristers from Westminster Abbey and a Cornish sea shanty group, Fisherman's Friends, who said the chance to take part was "the icing on the cake for us."

The Together at Christmas carol concert will be broadcast on television on December 24th.
