Iran Claims Assault on US Base in the Kingdom of Bahrain, During Widespread Retaliatory Strikes.
Iran's military claims to have hit a US naval base in Manama, as Iran launched strikes across the region in response for a large-scale and continuing attack against it by the US and Israel.
Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an area close to the main base of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet in Manama, Bahrain. The scope of any destruction is unclear and the US has remained silent.
Missile Defenses Activated
In other parts of the Middle East, the UAE, Qatar and the State of Kuwait - each hosting American military installations - reported they have engaged and destroyed incoming projectiles in their air space.
In the Qatari capital, Qatar's defence ministry stated it had intercepted a number of projectiles seemingly aimed at the al-Udeid air base, the largest American base in the region.
IRGC Statement
The Iranian Revolutionary Guard stated it was targeting US bases and assets as part of military campaign "Truthful Promise 4", in retaliation for the offensive on Iran initiated by the US and Israel on Saturday.
That US-Israeli operation - initiated at approximately 09:15 Iran time - has so far struck sites associated with the Tehran's leadership, with President Trump calling on the Iranian people to revolt against the government.
Regional Fallout
In the State of Israel, sirens were heard nationwide after the Israeli military stated it had identified an incoming Iranian missile barrage.
The defence ministry of the United Arab Emirates announced that the country has been targeted by a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"Emirati air defenses engaged the projectiles with great effectiveness and shot down a several projectiles," it added.
It said missile fragments landed in a populated district in the capital, causing some property damage and the death of one civilian.
The United States Air Force operates from the Al Dhafra base, south of the Emirati capital, along with the UAE Air Force.
