Jones has disclosed that Salah apologised to the group of players after the controversy from his televised remarks.

“Mo is his own man and he can say his own stuff,” Jones told Sky Sports. “His apology was clear and was like: ‘If my words hurt anyone, I'm sorry.’”

The manager has refused to disclose on whether he received a personal apology from the veteran striker.

He emphasized that the dressing room atmosphere was unchanged. “He was his usual self, he was smiling and everybody was exactly the same with him,” Jones added.

He also implied that a teammate fighting for a place is less of an issue. “I understand there are specific approaches you can go about things,” he said. “Yet, should someone be happy to just sit out, then I think that’s more of an issue.”
