New Particulars Come to Light Concerning the Finding of the Reiner Couple's Remains
New information has come to light regarding the untimely passing of esteemed film director Rob Reiner and visual artist Michele Singer Reiner, whose bodies were located at their Los Angeles home residence on Sunday.
The Discovery
As detailed in an account quoting a person close to the family, a therapist arriving for an session first raised the alarm after being unable to gain access the house. The practitioner then contacted the couple's daughter, Romy Reiner, who resides nearby.
Upon entering the home, Romy came upon her father's body. It is said she then left the home distraught, unaware at that moment that her mother's body was also inside. Her roommate who had accompanied her contacted 911. Following this, emergency responders discovered Michele Singer Reiner's body.
Legal Charges
The police have charged the couple's 32-year-old son, Nick Reiner, with the charges of premeditated murder, along with the charge related to a weapon, said to be a knife. He is currently detained and is ineligible for bail.
Correcting the Record
The person close to the family challenged several earlier details. The source indicated that while Romy Reiner told emergency responders that her brother Nick resided in a detached unit on the estate, she did not point to him as a person of interest at that time.
The source also pushed back against widely reported suggestions that Rob and Michele Singer Reiner had been especially "worried" about Nick's behavior in the weeks leading up to the incident. The source claimed the family was "accustomed to working through [Nick's] problems together."
The statement also extends to accounts of reportedly "erratic" behavior by Nick at a gathering thrown by Conan O'Brien the evening prior to the discovery. While the source said they were unable to confirm whether Rob had "rebuked" his son at the party, they said that claims of a "major confrontation" between the two were untrue.
Investigation Details
Per law enforcement officials, the coroner had not yet established at that point whether the Reiners died Saturday night or on Sunday. Preliminary media reports indicated the condition of their bodies pointed to they had been deceased for a number of hours.
Nick Reiner was arrested at approximately 9:30 p.m. on Sunday in the neighbourhood of Exposition Park, about 15 miles from the residence. He was set to appear in court on Tuesday, but his lawyer, Alan Jackson, said his client had a medical issue and would not be present until Wednesday at the earliest.
