Supporters Urge Custody of Individual Who Seized Ariana Grande
Passionate followers of Ariana Grande are demanding that a person who leaped a fence and seized the performer during yesterday's Wicked: For Good launch be arrested or deported from Singapore.
A viral footage shows the person identified as Johnson Wen pushing past media personnel and lunging at Grande while the cast proceeded down a promenade surrounded by onlookers.
Co-star Cynthia Erivo quickly pulled the surprised star away from Mr Wen, who was seen being escorted out of the gathering by guards.
Mr Wen shared on Instagram recently that he was "released after being taken in", though court documents indicated that he was set to attend court on the next day. It is unknown if he was charged.
History of Incidents
This is not the first time for Mr Wen, who labels himself a "Troll Most Hated", has crashed a celebrity gathering. His Instagram profile features recordings of him disrupting other celebrity events, including jumping on stage at the pop singer's Sydney performance in recently and in a similar way during The Chainsmokers concert in the same location last year.
"Measures must be taken applied against him as this is evidently a punishable act," wrote an Instagram follower, in a message to a video Mr Wen posted of his behavior.
"Oh wow so you do this a lot... how aren't you in jail?" a different Instagram user wrote.
Fans Voice Worry Over Ariana's Past Trauma
Numerous supporters criticized Mr Wen for "causing further distress" Grande, who had spoken of suffering from trauma-related anxiety after a suicide bomb attack at the finale of her 2017 concert in Manchester, claiming the lives of 22 people and harming many.
"Ariana has been through so many scary things... and at her Manchester concert and you thought it would be fun to jump the barricade?" said a further response on Instagram.
Several supporters also faulted security officers at the Thursday event for not being sufficiently alert; while some demanded social media platforms to remove Mr Wen's uploads.
Reaction and Premiere Information
In clips spreading on the internet, Grande looked surprised when she was approached by the intruder. Her co-stars Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be observed reassuring her while Mr Wen was led out by security.
Grande has remained silent on the situation, and the remaining proceedings carried on uninterrupted.
Numerous of supporters had gathered in a sea of emerald and rose at the Wicked: For Good Asia-Pacific premiere in a Singapore shopping center, including some who had queued for as long as a significant duration before it commenced.
The film, to be premiered on 21 November, is the second of a two-film version of the acclaimed theatrical musical Wicked, which centers on the unlikely relationship between two contrasting witches.
The production itself is a spin-off of the twentieth-century book The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who acts as the good witch Glinda, was dressed in a rosé glittering gown at the premiere while Erivo, who acts as the villainous character, wore a sleek black dress embroidered with roses.
They were joined by cast member Jeff Goldblum.
The previous installment, Wicked, was the highest-grossing motion picture of last year in the UK, and received a dozen Academy Award nods, securing several for excellent wardrobe and production design.
