The British designer Antony Price, the groundbreaking British fashion designer who crafted some of the most iconic looks associated with musical icons like Bowie and members of Roxy Music, as well as Queen Camilla, has died at 80 years old.

Price was best known for his architectural shapes and performative fashion, such as the light-hued ensembles that became famous from rock band Duran Duran's classic music video for "Rio".

"Remembering him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the group posted a remembrance online."

This news arrives just weeks after he presented his newest line in London, marking his return to the runway after over three decades. Singer Lily Allen walked in a dress inspired by the notorious black velvet "revenge dress" made famous by Princess Diana.

A Pioneering Career

A native of Yorkshire, born in 1945, Price moved to London in the early 1960s to study at the esteemed Royal College of Art.

A year after graduating, he began designing clothing for men at Stirling Copper and was the creator of the tight, button-detailed trousers that Sir Mick Jagger wore during the band's Gimme Shelter tour in 1969.

He founded his own label in 1979 and staged his first fashion show a year later. The show was launched by creations worn by the famed model Jerry Hall, who later wore the marriage dress Price created for her for her wedding to Sir Mick Jagger.

Partnerships with Stars

A key creative partner of David Bowie, Price designed the iconic jacket the star wore for his "the song As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His signature ability to fuse tailoring for all genders along with his expert craftsmanship in designing sculptural silhouettes cemented his status as a "one-of-a-kind talent," in the words of the British Fashion Council.

During the nineties, he commenced designing pieces for Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, which included a number of outfits for her American tour after assuming the title.

With a vocation that covered over fifty years, Price held his ultimate fashion presentation in London just last month in conjunction with the design house 16Arlington.

  • Sculpted Silhouettes: Central to his design philosophy.
  • Theatrical Flair: Defining an era of music fashion.
  • Genre-Blending Design: Creating a unique, androgynous style.
  • Clients from Stage to Palace: Spanning iconic musicians and members of the royal family.

Design circles laments the passing to a true visionary whose legacy on the visual landscape of music remains profoundly felt.
