The acclaimed crime series AC-12 will make a comeback for its seventh installment, confirmed by the broadcaster.

An upcoming six-part season written by the show's creator will begin filming in Northern Ireland this spring, as confirmed by the network.

Vicky McClure expressed excitement about the return, saying she was "so excited" about the show's renewal. Adrian Dunbar added, "How wonderful it is to know that the Three Amigos will be reuniting together next year."

The previous series wrapped up in recent years with a final episode that attracted over 17 million viewers. Rumors about a new season have been widespread for some time, but official word only came this week.

Fresh Obstacles for AC-12

The seventh season will open with AC-12 no longer existing and renamed as the new police oversight body, as revealed by production details.

Steve Arnott, Vicky McClure's role, and Adrian Dunbar's part remain working to combat misconduct within the law enforcement.

The team's mission "faces unprecedented challenges", and under these circumstances, these officers are assigned their "most delicate case so far."

New Character and Intricate Plot

An additional officer, Det Insp Dominic Gough, described as a charismatic officer celebrated for takedowns of organized crime, is accused of abusing his position to act as a offender.

Yet, his case could be a intentional diversion from a bigger threat still active in the background, the teaser hinted.

Speaking about the renewal, Jed Mercurio commented: "Everyone involved are deeply thankful to the dedicated viewers."

"We're privileged to have had so many followers track the developments of AC-12 over six previous seasons and we couldn't be more delighted to be coming back for a new season."

Mercurio continued: "Corruption in the UK is supposed to have ended while the series was off air, so I've been compelled to use my imagination."

Cast Reactions

The Scottish actor called appearing in the police drama as "a job of a lifetime".

"Beyond the show's success but the people I've collaborated with I now call dear friends."

"I'm excited to pull the waistcoat on again and reunite with everyone," he said.

The Nottingham-born actress remarked: "Obviously I'm so excited the show is back! Can't wait to work with the creator, Martin and Adrian again. The city, we'll be there shortly!"

Adrian Dunbar noted: "As we count down the unit return, what a joy it is to know that the Three Amigos will be working together soon."

"Pleased with the announcement and anticipating those unexpected twists and turns."

Series Legacy

Line of Duty launched in the early 2010s and became a highly successful television series of the past ten years, attracting guest stars such as Thandiwe Newton.

Broadcasters has not yet announced exactly the upcoming series will hit screens.

The conclusion of season six drew the extended plot about the search for criminal mastermind known as "the mysterious H" to a conclusion, and the creative team indicated at the moment there were no intentions for additional seasons.

However, the corporation announced on Tuesday that a new season is now in development.
