The Renowned Musician Calls On Backing to Get Palestinian Solidarity Track to UK Holiday Chart Peak.
A charity drive is aiming to send a Palestinian lullaby to the peak of the festive singles chart. The effort hopes to provide aid to communities in Gaza while also spotlighting Palestinian culture and creativity.
A Possibility for Unity and an "Unlikely Coup"
Renowned figure Brian Eno, who contributes to the track, stated that the song titled Lullaby represents a moment to show solidarity with Palestinians this festive season. He noted the potential for an unlikely festive coup.
“That would be amazing if that occurred, yes,” he said. “I won't be completely let down if it doesn't manage to, Christmas singles are a unique phenomenon.”
Resilient Spirit of Freedom and Dignity
Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who sings on the reimagining of a traditional lullaby called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the song's powerful central theme.
“It occupies a deeply meaningful spot for countless listeners,” Barghouti shared. “It’s basically saying that I would rather die in dignity than spend my life without freedom. This is the primary message of the song; we want to live a dignified life that we merit as a people.”
Track's Background and Star-Studded Lineup
The single was laid down after a large-scale benefit event held in September. First conceived to be captured during the live event, the performance was cut from the show due to scheduling overruns.
The diverse array of performers appearing on Lullaby includes a group of acclaimed names from the industry. All took part in the benefit event, which reportedly raised a significant sum for relief efforts.
Final Touches and Availability
Lullaby was brought to life by a group of producers and composers. The track features a mix of the traditional Arabic lyrics with freshly written English words.
The organizers behind the initiative have clarified that their aim is to generate maximum funds for a specific fund. These resources will be channeled to projects in Palestine through an non-profit partner.
“There is no a fixed goal,” a spokesperson commented. “We will pursue the maximum achievable. Of course, the more the merrier. All proceeds are directed out to Gaza.”
The situation in the territory was noted for its widespread damage, with a vast majority of infrastructure reportedly in ruins or severely impacted.
“Against that backdrop, a few million doesn’t make that much difference. But I think the significant factor is primarily spreading knowledge of this plight and showing there’s another side to the story.”
The track is set to be released this Friday. Additionally, a video of the solidarity show will be made available for streaming on a popular streaming site from mid-December.
