Toy Story 5 Teaser Pits The Beloved Duo Versus a Digital Device
Exactly 30 years after the original Toy Story movie was released, establishing the animation giant as a leading film company and introducing viewers to beloved figures like Woody (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (the voice talent), who are now household names.
In 2026, the next chapter is scheduled for release. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 appeared this week, providing a glimpse into the storyline but leaving viewers wondering how it will address the ending of Toy Story 4.
Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Spooks the Gang
In the teaser shows Bonnie — who received Andy's toys when he left for college — getting a latest plaything, one that alarms the familiar toy group. Bonnie gets her initial digital gadget, and she is thrilled about it.
Theoretically, the frog-shaped tablet will animate just like the rest of her playthings. However, the toys seem to view it as a danger intending to supplant them, which it probably is.
The Cowboy's Comeback: Mysteries from Toy Story 4
One thing the trailer avoids is why the sheriff is returned with his friends in Bonnie's room. The end of Toy Story 4 saw him embark on a fresh journey with the shepherdess (the actress), journeying with a carnival and helping prize toys find good homes.
Surely, Pixar will explain the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the film. Witnessing him appear in Bonnie's room unexpectedly is a little strange, though. It also makes us wonder whether Bo Peep will have come back with him. And where is Duke Caboom (Keanu Reeves)?
Connections from the Last Installment
At the very least, some aspects are continuing from the prior film. The final act Woody did before departing for his new life was pass his sheriff badge to Jessie (Joan Cusack), entrusting her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. In the teaser shows the badge pinned to her outfit.
It is hoped she is still the driving force among the toys.
Toy Story 5 debuts on the scheduled date.
